Principals' Welcome

Dear Cabrillo High School Community,

It is with the utmost of pride that we are given the opportunity to serve the students of Cabrillo High School as co-principals in the most beautiful school in Long Beach. Our students are extremely important to us and we want to assure you that we are truly partners with you, parents, in making sure that your child is offered the best instruction, and extra-curricular activities found in any comprehensive high school.

Our teachers are completely dedicated to the success of our students and committed to on-going professional development that is transferred into effective teaching practices for their personal and professional growth. Teachers are continuously available for our students and offer a variety of tutorials daily. Our teachers are even found on campus teaching Saturday CAHSEE and PSAT preparation courses to our students, which give them more opportunities to practice and hone their skills for these very important, high stakes tests.

Cabrillo students receive a myriad of support via our wonderful counseling staff who are available to help our students in meeting their social, emotional and intellectual needs. Counselors work diligently with our parents and students by communicating information relevant to high school success and educating students about the academic tools needed for entering college. An example of this is the 4 year plan that the counselor and the student develop together in guiding the student in a positive direction for a successful high school graduation. Aside from that, counselors spend an abundance of time teaching our students of the A-G requirements that will help them to be accepted in the California Universities. Last but not least, counselors do a fine job of tracking service learning hours that are mandatory graduation requirements for every high school senior in the Long Beach Unified School District.

Cabrillo High School is also proud to offer Advanced Placement (AP) Courses for students seeking to experience the academic rigor of university coursework, which will enable a smoother transition from high school to college, and the opportunity of earning college credit by taking and passing the AP exam. If students are not ready for Advanced Placement, they are registered in general education coursework that expose them to state standards and offer them the same academic rigor required to meet their grade level benchmark.

The administrative team is available and ready to serve our students, parents and teachers in supporting our school community and keeping us in a safe and caring environment. In order to accomplish a climate suitable for learning, you can find our administrative team highly visible on our campus and strongly supporting the school’s disciplinary plan. Often times, action is taken for the removal of non-conforming students who disrupt the learning climate and hinder us in moving our school forward to a safe and caring environment.

Finally, as co-principals of Cabrillo High School we extend an invitation to all our parents in forming a partnership with your sons/daughters’ teachers, and encourage you to support the pride that we have for our wonderful school by attending all of the curricular as well as extra-curricular events happening here.
