Jaguar ACCESS
Academy of College and Career Exploration for Student Success
|
Our vision: Making the Cabrillo Promise a reality for each and every Jaguar. |
The Freshman Academy is a comprehensive freshman transition program for all incoming 9th graders. We support and encourage our students to academically challenge themselves with rigorous and relevant courses. Each freshman is assigned to an ACCESS house with a selected teaching staff and a counselor.
How does ACCESS support me, as a parent?
We have an open-door policy for parents to meet with the ACCESS teams upon request. We send home regular e-mails through School Loop. We have an Academy Parent Night prior to the first day of school, to familiarize parents with Academy staff, expectations, and policies.
How does ACCESS support my child?
We offer students and parents an on-campus orientation prior to the first day of school. We provide students a planner and we promote its use. We offer an after-school study hall program during which students may receive extra help from specific teachers or complete their homework. We offer optional after-school workshops on topics such as note-taking, study skills, and test-taking strategies. We are proud to offer career exposure and education embedded in our rigorous, college preparatory coursework, leading to student selection of a Small Learning Community. Our options are varied, and include; engineering, law and justice, health occupations, computer media and arts, international studies, and business.
What types of incentives are used to motivate ACCESS students?
Incentives include; ACCESS Awards, field trips and extracurricular experiences that allow students to explore both the world of college and career.
