Coach George Richardson

Cabrillo's Head Football Coach: George Richardson

Coach Richardson's Bio

Coach Richardson is entering his first season as the Head Football Coach at Cabrillo.  Prior to Cabrillo, he was the Defensive Coordinator at Dadeville High School in Dadeville, Alabama.  In just one season, he mentored 5 defenders who made the Outlook All Area Football Team.  Prior to Dadeville, Richardson was the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach for 4A power house Noxubee County High School in Macon, Mississippi.  During his tenure in Macon, the Tigers compiled a 77-13 record with 5 District Titles, 4 North State Championship appearances, and 3 State Championships.  In 6 seasons, the Tiger defense produced three 1st Team All State middle linebackers in Quendarion Barnett, Antonio Ryland, and Corey Williams.  1st Team All State outside linebacker Javancy Jones, and 2nd Team All State outside linebacker Javoris Glenn were two of the cornerstones of a 2012 defense that went undefeated 16-0.  All State Free Safety Antravion Jamison signed with Mississippi Valley State University, and Safety Deveon Ball signed with Hinds Community College and currently holds over 10 D1 offers.  Richardson also produced two 4A Defensive Players of the Year in brothers Dylan Bradley and Jeffrey Simmons.  Bradley finished his career at Southern Mississippi University and signed a free agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings.  Simmons made the 1st Team All SEC and All Academic Freshman Team at Mississippi State University, and is currently ranked the #9 DT in college football by Sporting News heading into his sophomore year.

The 2013 season saw Richardson enter the collegiate ranks as a Defensive Graduate Assistant at Alabama State University under Defensive Coordinator Kevin Ramsey and Head Coach Reggie Barlow.  Before the season got under way, Richardson took a position at Long Beach Millikan High School.  Millikan was 0-28 prior to his arrival.  The Rams finished the season 5-5.

Richardson made his way to Macon via Dallas County High School in Plantersville, Alabama.  Under Head Coach John Higgins (2007-2008), he mentored University of Alabama Birmingham and former CFL defensive end Andrew Mahan, and Auburn defensive end Keymiya Harrell.  2015 wasn’t Richardson’s first stint at Dadeville.  During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Richardson tutored 1st Team All State defensive backs Hunter Mcbride and Kyle Foshee.  The Los Angeles native landed in Alabama by taking his first Defensive Coordinator position at Central Coosa High School in Rockford, Alabama.  The 4A Cougars had won just 4 games in 3 seasons prior to Richardson’s arrival.  They opened the 2004 season with a 6-0 win over 5A rival Sylacauga.

Coach Richardson first entered the coaching field at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles under Head Coach Robert Garrett as a Defensive backs coach.  There he mentored Colorado signee Gardner McKay, and CAL signees Damyeon Hughes and Darian Hagan Jr.  Both Hagan and Hughes played in the NFL.

Coach “Rich” as his players call him, was a defensive back in 1999 for his alma mater Alabama A&M University, West L.A. Community College in 1997, and a redshirt freshman at Fresno State in 1996.  He was a 5 sport athlete at St. Bernard’s High School in Playa del Rey, California.  There he participated in football, track, cross-country, baseball, and wrestling.  He was also selected to play in the Lyons Club East vs. West All-Start football game.  Richardson is married to the former Adrianne Russell of Dadeville, Alabama.  The couple enjoy relaxing on the porch of their home which they affectionately call the “Hill Side”.
