Start on Time Policy

 Tardy Policy and Procedures

 

1st Period:

  • 7:48 or before, teacher stands at classroom door encouraging students to get to class.
  • 7:50 tardy bell
  • 7:50-8:15 Students are sent to class and marked tardy by their 1st period teacher.
  • All unexcused tardiness results in a 30 detention
  • 8:20 Teachers no longer accept late students and classroom doors are locked.
  • After 8:20 any student found outside class without a class pass will be swept to the lunch tables. 
  • All truant students held and receive attendance counseling for entire period by administrator(s) or designee.
  • Students coming to school after 8:20 will be marked truant.  Habitual truants will be referred to Cabrillo Attendance Review Team and may be cited.  
    • Truancy letters are sent quarterly by district.
    • Students may be cited after first truancy letter sent.
    • Interventions for tardiness/truancies may include counseling, parent contact, adjustment of schedule, referral to social worker, alternative placement.
    • Teachers, parents, students, counselors and administrators will intervene to resolve issue.

 

2nd – 6th Periods

  • Teachers stand outside door for at least last 2 minutes prior to tardy bell.
  • Teachers allow student into class during first 10-minutes.
  • If in the syllabus, all unexcused tardy students may be denied make up of beginning assignment, quiz, etc.
  • 10-minutes after class begins, any student found outside class will be swept and provided appropriate intervention and consequence.
  • No students allowed into class after 10 minutes into period unless they have an excused pass from counselor or administrator.
  • All unexcused tardiness results in a 30 detention
