Cabrillo Tardy Policy

Attention All Cabrillo Students:

School is your first and most important job. Attending school daily and being on time is important to your overall success in school. It also provides daily practice for two of the most important skills that lead to success in college and career.  At Cabrillo, it is expected that students arrive to class on time - every period, every day.

When students are tardy less than 15 minutes late to periods 1/2, or less than 5 minutes late to all other periods, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Students will head directly to class.
  2. Teachers will mark students tardy at any time they arrive late to class.
  3. Once a student has accumulated 10 tardies (Across all periods), Saturday School will be assigned.

When students are tardy more than 15 minutes late to periods 1/2, or more than 5 minutes late to all other periods, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Teachers will mark students tardy at any time they arrive late to class. Students will be assigned an after-school tardy detention.
  2. Students are expected to self-report to detention on either the same day the tardy occurred or the following day. Students who self-report to detention on day 1 or 2 will serve a 15-minute detention.
  3. Students who fail to self-report to detention will be pulled from periods 5/6 or 7/8 on the third day. Students who had to be pulled out of class will serve a 30-minute detention. This covers the 15-minute tardy detention & an additional 15 for failing to serve the detention assigned.
  4. Deans and CSO's begin to pull students at 2:20 PM. On Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays.Students will serve detentions in OCS and surrounding bungalows. On Tuesdays and Wednesday detentions are served at the lunch benches.
  5. Saturday School attendance will clear 10 tardies on a student’s school record, but will not clear any tardy detentions owed.

Again, the expectation is that students arrive to class on time – every period, every day. However, when tardy, it becomes the student’s responsibility to self-report to detention.
