Cabrillo High School
Tardy Expectations

At Cabrillo High School, it is the expectation that students arrive to school on time and attend each class period.

Students who are tardy to the 1st instructional block (periods 1 and 2) will head directly to class.

  • After the first 15 minutes, students will be assigned a tardy detention, which will also serve as their pass to class. Tardy detentions are assigned for the next school day, but students are allowed to serve it on the same day. Detentions are served from 2:45 - 3:15 in Room 1604.
  • Students who arrive to school more than 50 minutes into the first instructional block (periods 1 and 2) should report directly to Room 1604 for the remainder of the period.

Students who are less than 5 minutes late to the instructional blocks (periods 3-8), should head straight to class.

  • Students who are more than 5 minutes tardy will be assigned a tardy detention, which will also serve as their pass to class. Tardy detentions are assigned for the next school day, but students are allowed to serve it on the same day. Detentions are served from 2:45 - 3:15 in Room 1604.
  • Students who arrive to class more than 50 minutes into the period should report directly to Room 1604 for the remainder of the period.

All tardies will accumulate across periods and days. Interventions and consequences for accumulated tardies will be as follows:

  • 1st-5th tardy: Teachers will mark students tardy and implement progressive consequences
  • 6th-10th tardy: Teachers will mark students tardy. Counselors will meet with student to develop a contract and hold a parent conference. Student conduct grade may be affected.
  • 11th-15th: Teachers will mark students tardy. Dean will meet with student, assign detention and make parent contact. Progressive discipline will apply.
  • 16th & subsequent: Teachers will mark students tardy. Dean &/or Administrator will meet with student & parent, assign Saturday School, & determine necessary supports to address chronic tardiness.

Teachers, Office Personnel, Counselors, Deans, and Administrators are expected to write a green pass for any student who is out of class during the instructional period. NO EXCEPTIONS! Students who arrive tardy to class with a green pass are considered excused.
