The CAPP College Going Culture Grant has entered its 4th and final year at Cabrillo promoting an expansion of our college going efforts. Over the last 4 years, he grant has promoted a “culture of caring”, teacher PD, schoolwide promotion of college-going, COPE training, parent workshops, and even a summer program for incoming freshmen.

As part of the data collection, the grant is once more asking for our faculty to complete the CAPP Grant Teacher Survey to assess how we have progressed since we began the grant.

As a way to incentivize our faculty to participate, the CAPP Grant office is offering to host a breakfast / lunch on CAPP!

If 90% of the faculty complete the survey, CAPP will provide a meal ($5/person) to the faculty. This is just a small token of their appreciation and a way for them to say thank you for all of your effort and support over the last 4 years. Sweet, right? Who doesn’t like free food. Below is the link to the survey. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Teacher Survey: http://uclaed.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e2tPfSw2WB5LqTz

Please take a few minutes to respond to the questions so we can get the faculty’s collective input. The final report will be shared in the spring.

Thank you in advance.

Mr. Razo

Now is the time for interested 11th and 12th grade students to register for the CSULB Ethnic Studies class during the spring semester.  Space may also be available for 10th graders, however it will be dependent on the volume of 11th and 12th grade applicants.  This class is offered free to Long Beach Unified students.  The class sessions will be held at each of the comprehensive high schools:  Cabrillo, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly and Wilson. All classes will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.  Classes will begin on Sept. 9 and continue until Dec. 16, 2017.   Attendance is extremely important in this college class.   If you are unable to attend more than 90 percent of the class sessions, you might reconsider registering for this class, as your grade will be negatively affected by absences.  If there is enough interest to offer the courses in the afternoon on Saturday or during the week, we will consider offering the courses at those alternative times.  However, we must have enough student interest in order to offer these additional time options.

Enrollment is limited to 70 students per school.  If there are more than 70 students interested per site, students will be randomly selected to participate, with 12th graders given priority.  Students who are not selected will be offered a space at another site where space is available or placed on a waiting list for the spring semester.

Additional classes will be available for students who have already completed a previous Ethnic Studies class and wish to take additional ethnic specific courses.  These advanced courses will be offered at sites that generate the most interest.

If you are interested in being considered for the spring semester CSULB Ethnic Studies class, please complete the registration form.
