Cabrillo High School Academic Dress Code

Purpose:

Cabrillo High School is a professional learning / work environment with the goal of preparing students for higher education and/or the post-secondary workplace.  A student’s dress and general appearance should not be such that it draws undesirable attention to the student, nor should dress and appearance detract or interfere with teaching and learning in the classroom and on the campus.  It is expected that all students shall maintain their person and clothing in a modest, clean, and age-appropriate fashion consistent with our dress code and compatible with the instructional program.

Violation Consequences:

Students who appear at school wearing inappropriate clothing or who are inappropriately groomed will not be allowed to attend class until they make changes necessary to meet the LBUSD’s dress and grooming requirements.  Changes could entail removing objectionable clothing items, putting on acceptable clothing provided by the school, or contacting parents to return home to obtain appropriate clothing.

Acceptable Clothing And Grooming

Boys And Girls

  • Pants must be hemmed and appropriately fitted at the waist, at the leg inseams and/or crotch area
  • Belt tails may be no longer than 4 inches from the first belt loop and may not hang down as a tail.  They should be appropriately sized at the waist and fitted into the belt loops
  • Shirts must be appropriately fitted at the shoulder
  • Footwear must be appropriate for school activities
  • Personal grooming items must be kept in lockers, backpacks, or purses
  • Sun protective hats with at least a 3” brim all the way around

Spirit Clothing:

Cabrillo HS has made special provisions that allow school spirit team, or school sponsored club-related clothing to be worn either on a daily basis or on designated days.

 

Unacceptable Clothing And Grooming

Boys And Girls

  • No OVERSIZED clothing, sagging pants, or extra long     t-shirts
  • No head covering, hats, hoods, bandanas, hair nets, do rags, baseball-type caps, curlers, or combs in hair
  • Clothing and accessories which are unsafe and/or dangerous
  • Clothing that is revealing and inappropriate such as clothes that allow undergarments to be exposed
  • Clothing and accessories with obscene, illegal substances (alcohol or drugs), gang-related material or material that would substantially interfere with appropriate discipline or the educational mission of the school
  • Shoes considered unsafe
  • Pajamas and/or house shoes

Unacceptable Girls Clothing:

Dresses and Tops: strapless, off the shoulder, cut-out designs, low-cut or tight shirts, blouses or tops that bare the midriff at any time, bare-back, tube tops, see-through and sheer clothing that does not have an appropriate blouse or shirt underneath.

Gang / Tagger Crew Related Unacceptable Clothing Or Accessories

Boys And Girls

The following clothing is unacceptable and not allowed due to its association and /or affiliation with gangs.  Due to changing styles, the administration is not limited to this list for dress code violations based on gang attire.

  • Hats, caps, headgear and bandanas
  • Clothing, haircuts and accessories worn in a manner which could be associated with gangs
  • Any gang / tagger crew identified apparel
  • Knee socks with over the knee shorts
  • Initial belt buckles
  • Gang / tagger crew writing on shoes, clothes, bodies, backpacks or accessories
  • Any combination deemed gang / tagger crew related as concluded by law enforcement agencies
  • Trench-type knee length coats (unless specific to inclement weather)

Dress and grooming must comply with the regulations as stated in the LBUSD Guidelines.

Electronic Devices​​​​​​​:  Confiscated devices will result in a mandatory detention to receive the item back.  Loss of any such devices (cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, Game Boys, etc.) will be the responsibility of the owner of such item.  The school will not be held responsible for any loss of such items.
