Soccer - Boys

Soccer at Cabrillo is Year Round

We train anywhere and everywhere - from runs to the Queen Mary and back - to fitness work in the pool, bike room and weight rooms.
We train playing futsal in the gyms or tennis courts. We also train playing soccer tennis and soccer volleyball. But most of our training is done on the BEST soccer field in the district.
I hope to see as many players come out as possible. Good Luck to all!

To the Parents of a Cabrillo High School Soccer player 2018 - 2019

I am happy to let you know that your son has been chosen to represent Cabrillo HS in high school soccer competitions this year!  We had more than 100 player’s tryout between last spring and this past week. Only 60 or so have been picked.

High school soccer is a privilege and NOT a RIGHT.  Kids will be expected to adhere to rules that if not followed can lead to accountability that includes the following: game suspension, multiple game suspension and finally dismissal from the team!  Playing time at the high school level is dependent on the coach’s evaluation of the team. THERE IS NO PROMISE of time on the field. All players are expected to be classroom, campus and field leaders in their behavior! They represent a special program, you as parents, my coaching staff and me. Misbehavior in the class, on campus or on the field will NOT be tolerated and will lead to accountability that is suspension in the first incident and team removal if there is a second incident.

All players are expected first and foremost to be STUDENTS FIRST! A minimum GPA of 2.0 in ANY grading period is demanded. Falling below a 2.0 will lead to removal from the team. It is expected that any of our players who have hopes and or wishes to play at the next level (college) will strive for a greater than 3.0 GPA.

All players are expected to attend the entirety of each training session and I ask that all appointments be scheduled after 4 pm or on weekends please.  Exceptions can be made with sufficient notice to me or my staff coaches. Missing a practice will result in accountability from loss of playing time to training day extra work.

The school district provides transportation and officials for any and all of our home or away games during the Nov – Feb season with the exception of any Winter break tournaments.

The district does not provide tournament entry fees, uniforms, balls, training equipment or additional money for coaches such as a GK trainer. For this - each player needs to help the soccer club in fundraising efforts. Including but not only limited to. Car wash pre-sale tickets and candy sales.

Our schedule is attached and as you will see – we have many games for the kids to play. The varsity team will be traveling to Santa Barbra and playing in the Invitational in conjunction with the NCAA MENS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIOP FINAL 4 Event! We will also travel to Avalon by boat and Lake Arrowhead for day trips and games. The JV team will accompany varsity to Lake Arrowhead. Each of these trips cost money. Our Avalon and Lake Arrowhead transportation will be covered by the school district. The FS team has a challenging schedule with games vs some of the top CIF teams in the Southern California area as well.

I encourage all parents to attend our games. I do expect that parents will NOT coach their kids during the game nor yell at coaches or referees! This behavior will NEVER change a call that has already been made and likely will harm our team and create more calls against us - as – referees are human too! Yelling at a coach can have an adverse effect on our kids and staff and is also not appropriate at a high school soccer game.

Our varsity boys’ soccer team was invited and has accepted an invitation to a high school soccer tournament December 6th - 8th in Santa Barbara being held simultaneously and in conjunction with the Men's Soccer Final Four Division I National Championships.  There will be more than 300 college coaches in the area attending high school and college games. This is a once every 7 - 10 years event.

Our team has also been set up for a tour and meeting with the head coach at Westmont University. A small private University in the Santa Barbara area where several local players attend and play soccer presently. The varsity trip to Santa Barbara is self-funded by the team members attending. To that end – I am requesting that players on the varsity fund raise or donate $100 per player. Attached you will see an itinerary and a tentative budget for the varsity team trip!

Our tentative itinerary and budget is as follows:

Tournament cost is $550 - 24 Tickets to Semifinals - included

Hotels - $1900

Food - We have taken school food on previous trips. TBD

Any help finding a sponsor or a grant would be an incredible benefit to the soccer program! Any or all of you are welcome to pass on our need to any individual or company who may be open to helping the program with funding.
